While you are visiting us...

The upper thumb has many interesting things to do. Just for starters, in Harbor Beach, we have wonderful shops including two fine antique shops, two marvelous museums, an historical community center with a beautiful old movie theater. We have a beautiful beach, piers for walking and an enjoying view of Lake Huron. There are good restaurants within walking distance. Nearby, there is golfing, a lighthouse museum, a ghost town museum called Huron City, and for something really different, you can even visit an Alpaca Farm or Buffalo Ranch.

Fine museums -- Murphy Museum and Grice Museum — take you back in time.

Calling All Lighthouse Lovers!

A trip to Huron County wouldn’t be complete without a trip to an historic lighthouse. Just 16 miles from The State Street Inn, you will find The Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse which has a long and rich history. Originally built in 1848, it was torn down due to structural cracks in 1857 and a whole new design and structure was built. The Lighthouse is located in one of Huron County’s beautiful parks on Lake Huron.

There are two museums housed in the lighthouse. During the Heritage Festival in August, the tower is open to the public and it is exciting to climb the 93 steps up the winding staircase to see the spectacular view of Lake Huron. Lighthouse Museum hours are 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, daily from Memorial weekend to the last weekend in September.

Visit a bison (buffalo) ranch and see these amazing creatures. Did you know that Bison calves weigh approximately 40 to 50 pounds at birth? Bison have a "grunt" call, rather than a "moo" like a cow. Tours are available on Thursdays and Saturdays. Let us know if you would be interested in visiting the Bison Ranch and we will call to schedule your visit.
